Community Relations Manager

ABOUT SALOC

San Antonio is proud to host its fifth NCAA Men’s Final Four in 2025. The San Antonio Local Organizing Committee (SALOC) is a 501c3 non-profit charged with planning and executing national events in San Antonio. SALOC is a partnership between San Antonio Sports, the City of San Antonio, Visit San Antonio, UTSA and UIW to host the 2025 NCAA Men’s Final Four series of events and programs in San Antonio.

 

OVERVIEW

The Community Relations Manager will work hand-in-hand with the Senior Director of Community Relations by executing key programs such as Read to the Final Four and community engagement programs in support of city-wide planning related to the 2025 Men’s Final Four.

 

The successful applicant will demonstrate strong administrative technical skills to include Office Word and Excel, shared drives, calendars, scheduling, online meeting platforms, forms, email marketing platforms and CRMs, for example. SALOC primarily utilizes Microsoft Teams, Dropbox and Smartsheet.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • This highly motivated person should possess good intellect, excellent communications skills (written and verbal) and experience in event planning, community relations and/or program coordination. 

  • Serve as support for the Sr. Director of Community Relations, the NCAA staff, the SALOC team and the broader community at large with a “can-do,” positive and upbeat attitude while working to achieve all parties’ desired outcomes for a successful city-wide event of national importance.

  • Support the maintenance of key community stakeholder relations with districts, schools, community leaders and vendors.

  • Coordinate and manage the Read to the Final Four literacy challenge to achieve goals.

    • Monitor and manage school participation, resources and content for schools, request creative assets in a timely manner, track and report program data, and provide summary reports daily and weekly as requested.

    • Ensure delivery of materials and prizes to participating schools.

    • Assist in the planning and implementation of program events to include kick-off reading rally, bracket selection, weekly bracket announcements, Fan Jam school visits and Final Four celebration at Fan Fest.

    • Responsible for special events as needed including site visits.

    • Management of literacy challenge platforms, data entry and reporting.

    • Event operations management (loading, set up, strike).

    • Coordinate background checks and schedules for volunteers/staff/guest readers.

    • Manage weekly communications with schools (Mailchimp/platform Updates).

  • Support the supervision, training and administration of department interns.

  • Provide strong and positive administrative support with attention to detail.

  • Assist with scheduling of all meetings between the NCAA staff and the SALOC team regarding community engagement needs, programs and execution of events.

  • Assist with and regularly prepare updates and reports with NCAA staff, Executive Director and Managing Director of SALOC.

  • Plan, attend and host Community Relations Fan Jam events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required and 1-2 years of experience as a program, event or project coordinator.

  2. Excellent organizational, administrative and communication skills.

  3. Flexibility to work long hours including evenings and weekends when necessary.

  4. Operating knowledge of Windows-based software including PowerPoint, Excel, Word. Google Sheets/Docs/Forms, SharePoint, Dropbox, MailChimp a plus.

  5. Ability to work with little or no supervision, quickly and under pressure.

  6. Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a high-energy environment.

  7. Lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly, work outdoors and stand for long periods of time.

  8. Valid driver’s license (Be prepared to use personal vehicle to travel to and from site all of which will be within Bexar County.)

  9. Ability to drive a box truck and/or vehicle pulling trailer a plus.

 

TERM:  April 15, 2024 – April 18, 2025 

 

POSITION:  This is a full-time, in-office, contractor position. Benefits are not included. Reliable transportation and laptop required. Office space and equipment provided. Relocation expenses not included. Compensation commensurate with experience. Must pass a background check and have a valid driver’s license.
